When you have to get up and go and strap everything you can bring with you on your back in your bug out bag, it would be advisable to have an emergency sleeping bag with you. The elements can potentially be harsh, and you’ll need something that can both keep you warm and add a little comfort as opposed to sleeping on the hard ground. The problem with most sleeping bags is that they are not compact and when rolled up are practically as big as your bug out bag themselves! That’s not very viable for if you have to get up and go and navigate your way to your bug out location.
The coolest thing about this emergency sleeping bag is that when packaged up in its case it can fit in the palm of your hand. It’s a very impressive example of a very compact piece of gear. This item will take up next to no space in your bag and it also adds next to no weight. It’s perfect for what we need as survivalist preppers.
This is the best model we’ve found, and it’s affordable too.
How An Emergency Sleeping Bag Can Be Of Use
This is a great item to have in your preps. Hopefully, you won’t have to leave your home for safety reasons. Even if you don’t have to leave your home, this sleeping bag could be very helpful in keeping you warm, in addition to the compact emergency blankets we posted about in another page. If this happens in the harsh depths of winter, preventing hypothermia and shock related to the chilling cold weather will be imperative. This item could also be used if you want to sleep close to your barricaded front door, just in case.

It could be said though that the main benefit of an emergency sleeping bag is when you have to bug out. Chances are, you won’t have an abundance of warm blankets with you in your survival tent, and you’ll only be able to bring items with you that can fit in your bug out bag. You can fit several of these if you’re with family members in your bag without them taking up any meaningful space. Heck, you could even bring a half a dozen of these in your pockets! Their super compact size is a huge benefit and makes them a very practical survival item.
How To Stay Warm In Your Emergency Sleeping Bag
Hopefully, when the time comes that you have to potentially bug out, the weather will be agreeable. If that’s the case you could just use your sleeping bag as a makeshift mattress and sleep on top of it. The odds of this being the case are not in your favor though. Chances are, your sleeping bag’s primary function will be for preservation of warmth over comfort.
Regardless of whether you get to weather this storm from home, or if you have to get up and go and retreat to a bug out vehicle or bug out location, being prepared for cold weather is something you have to take into account. I am still in the process of finding my perfect bug out location, but once that is settled, I really like the idea of stashing necessary items there that can be waiting for me. In all likelihood, I will be burying said items wrapped in multiple garbage bags. Having long johns and other clothing to keep me warm will be on my list for sure. I won’t need to stash these emergency sleeping bags though, because they are so compact and easy to bring with me.
