We will probably get to weather the storm from home, but if I’m forced to leave my home I have several bug out locations ready, and at my primary one or first choice I have a wood burning camp stove stashed away. Bug out bags are designed for when we have to get up and go, and they aren’t really equipped for bringing along big equipment like a wood burning stove. That’s why I have mine stashed away where nobody would ever likely find it at my bug out location.
So here’s my plan. If I’m able to weather the storm from home, which is what I’m hoping for, I won’t be doing any cooking over a fire. All that would do is attract a hoard of starving and desperate people, and they would show up well before my food is done cooking. I’m also going to be cautious about cooking fragrant foods indoors, as people’s sense of smell for food will be heightened when they become hungry and desperate. If we get to stay home, I will be living on my stash of survival food of canned meats, canned seafood, powdered milk, pemmican and freeze dried foods.
If I have to get up and go though, my plan is to throw my bug out bag over my back and in one free hand I will be carrying a grocery store plastic shopping bag full of whatever I have in the freezer. At my bug out location I will be able to cook and grill meats safely. With my wood burning camp stove safely tucked away in the brush waiting for me, I will be eating some fresh grilled meat on my first few nights of bugging out in nature. Once what I bring with me is gone, I will try my luck at hunting and fishing and cook my catch on this wood burning stove. With my super handy pocket chainsaw in my bug out bag, retrieving wood for a fire will never be a problem.
I used my wood burning camp stove a few times in my backyard before I stashed it away at my bug out location. I made some delicious hamburgers and a few chicken legs. I don’t really do any camping for recreation, but if I did this item would serve multi purposes for me. If I ever do go camping, I will definitely be taking this wood burning stove with me as it is a very cool item.
