You know you need to start preparing, but the thought of taking on a new expensive hobby makes you nervous. No worries! You can start preparing on a shoestring budget, and we’re about to show you how! The most important thing is that you start, and you can literally “start” for less than one dollar. There are all kinds of items you can start procuring for very small sums of money that will give you a big advantage in survival. The longer you wait, the less you’ll have when the you know what hits the fan. Accumulating supplies little by little adds up in a big way over time, so let’s get started!
Can It Really Be That Cheap To Prep?
Yes it can with canned food. The essence of survival is food and water, and you can buy food that you can store long term for just under $1. Granted, not all canned food can be bought for 99 cents, but at my grocery store I just got a can of green beans for that price that will last me until August three years from now. For less than $2, I can get high quality protein in the form of canned seafood like anchovies, sardines, mackerel or tuna. These will give you considerable nutrition and energy to get you through the day.
You can buy a wide variety of canned soups, but then you have to take into consideration how they would taste cold if we are in a grid down scenario and you aren’t advanced enough in your preps to generate your own electricity to find a way to warm them up.
For the seasoned preppers though, devices like a solar oven or a solar portable power station can heat your soup up. Soup has long been considered a survival food, but back then they were surviving poverty, not a SHTF scenario.
Other Budget Friendly Items To Consider
One thing you will need to prepare for is any potential first aid or illness issues that could arise. For this, a regular first aid kit isn’t gonna cut it. You’re going to need a much larger preppers first aid kit, but before you buy said kit you can start procuring items that will go in it. You can pick up a bottle of aspirin for less than $2 at any dollar store. Items like gauze pads and tourniquets are very inexpensive. You can also add rubbing alcohol, bandages of various sizes, burn cream and cheap medical scissors that cost a few bucks. It would also be a good idea to have an over the counter pain reliever that focuses on physical aches and pains too.
In addition to the first aid essentials, there are all kinds of gadgets and items you can pick up on the cheap. You could buy a siphon pump for fuel for as little as $10. That could come in handy. You can pick up candles for just a couple bucks. You can buy all kinds of gadgets and compact tools that can fit in a bug out bag for very small sums of money. There are all kinds of things you can incrementally stock up on to weather the storm many of us feel is coming.
Why You Need To Start Regardless Of Your Budget
If you’re on a really tight budget, cut out any unnecessary excesses you have in your life like overpriced coffee from franchise stores and start preparing for your survival. Most people will face this crisis totally unprepared, many with less than 2 days worth of food to live on, in a totally helpless state. You don’t want to find yourself in that position. The next time you go to the grocery store, pick up a couple canned food items. Maybe buy some canned sardines or anchovies. Always look at the expiration date and only buy things with long shelf life.
Once you’ve built up some food and first aid preps on the cheap, you have really made strides. You will only have a few items you might consider expensive to procure. One is going to be some type of water filter, in addition to a potential rainwater collection system if you’re not in a desert climate. You’re also going to need at least one firearm, if not several, and the ammunition that goes with it.
Just get started. If you’re on this website and you’ve made it to the bottom of this post, prepping is definitely on your radar. Don’t let cost or a tight budget get in your way. What we are very likely to go through is not going to be pleasant. It will be a struggle. You can come out the other side and survive though.
