Survival of any SHTF scenario entails surviving potential attacks from intruders and aggressive vandals, and for this potential scenario you’ll need to have an arsenal of weapons you can rely on. Most people wouldn’t think about a crossbow, but being competent with one and having one to use can be a benefit to any prepper.
For most, the use of a crossbow will probably be more appropriate or more germane when bugging out to an outdoor location. Using a crossbow to defend your home probably isn’t the most ideal option when you could just pull your pistol or shotgun, but when someone sees you have a pistol in your waistband on in a holster and you have an arrow pulled back on your crossbow pointing right at them, they will run in the other direction at the drop of the hat and beg and plead with you not to shoot them. This is a weapon that definitely gives you the upper hand in a potential conflict scenario.

I’m taking a different approach with this weapon, and I’m stashing it at my primary bug out location in case I have to leave my home. At home I have a sword, machete and several different firearms I can rely on to defend myself and my home.
