During a grid down scenario things will be incredibly volatile, so being able to handle emergencies with confidence is key. Whether you are a lone wolf surviving by yourself, or if you have children or other family or close friends to take care of, you need to be in a position where you are competent and able to handle any situation that comes your way. That might sound overwhelming, but really it’s not. It all comes with prepping education and strategy. If you are well prepared to take on any disaster scenario that might come our way, you will be in a position where any situation that arises can be handled confidently.

For the unprepared and people who don’t even have prepping on their radar, sadly, when an emergency scenario arises, that might be what does them in. They won’t be equipped to handle much of what’s going on and what they need to adapt to. Then you throw the wild card in the mix of a dangerous situation that spontaneously comes out of nowhere, and it’s too much. Luckily, none of what I just described needs to apply to you.
A wide range of emergencies can transpire when we are bugging out or hunkering down at home for survival. In turbulent and unpredictable times like we aren’t accustomed to, anything can potentially happen. Having a plan for a multitude of different scenarios is a good course of action, and the ones you don’t specifically plan for can likely be handled competently with a good background in prepping, first aid and survival.

An item you should definitely have in your preps is a fire extinguisher. If a fire breaks out, it can spread and become out of control quickly. It will get to a point where your stackable water isn’t enough to combat the expanding flames. A fire extinguisher will quickly put out any fire, which regardless of the size of said fire is a real hazard. Being in a situation where a fire gets out of control can really put your state of survival at risk.
Having all potential first aid needs met is another box you need to tick. Anything from a simple cut to a deep laceration needs to be bandaged appropriately in order to avoid infection. If someone sprains their ankle or hurts their back, pain relief and dressing should be available. If you or someone gets sick, over the counter medicines and other remedies should be in your first aid kit. Every potential situation that might need proper medical attention should be accounted for with planning and supplies.
Possibly the most unsettling of emergency situations is someone, or a group of people, trying to force entry into your home. A moment like this could be considered the crescendo of survival. The first thing you have to do is fortify your home’s defense by sealing off all potential entry points except for your front door. The front door will ideally have makeshift barricade in place.
If you have an arsenal of weapons at your disposal, you can assess the threat and act accordingly. If you are riding this storm out by yourself, having your shotgun ready behind your barricaded door is good.
