Prepping in the city and on the cul de sac

Prepping in the city and on the cul de sac

Things To Do First

You’ve come to realize that things are volatile and that you need to start prepping, but you don’t know where to start. This is a common reaction when someone comes to the realization that they need to prepare for a potentially catastrophic situation. No worries friends. We have a good place to start for you and it’s all spelled out in this blog post.

People are preparing for a wide variety of reasons. Some are laughable, like little rocket man from North Korea shooting a missile in the sky that causes a polar vortex ice age for the northern hemisphere, and some are very plausible like an extended grid down scenario. Some people fear an even worse pandemic than what we suffered through from 2020-2022. By suffering I primarily mean being locked down and being forced to wear a face diaper, but I digress. Actually, the mind control propaganda was probably the most insufferable part for me.

As I mentioned in a previous post, prepping is one of those rare things in which you can be very wrong and still come out a big winner. I personally don’t think there’s any chance of a polar vertex ice age coming. If you were prepping for one though and an economic collapse or an even worse pandemic hit, you would sure be glad you were prepping for that ice age!

A Good Place To Start — Food And Water

Obviously, you are going to need food. What kind of food though? First, it is important to realize that while you want to eat as good as possible during this very volatile time, your favorite meals are probably not something you can rely on. Survival typically doesn’t involve a fancy beef stew simmering on the stove top all day or a comforting lasagna. Survival food is just that. Food to help you survive.

When obtaining canned food to add to your supplies, there are a couple main things to consider. Expiration dates would be a good place to start. Food will still be edible past it’s expiration date, but it will lose some of its nutrient content and its taste. There are canned foods that don’t expire for over 2 decades, and foods like pemmican that have an almost indefinite shelf life.

Water is another factor that has to be addressed. How will you get clean potable water to drink to sustain yourself? Many people under duress will succumb to drinking stagnant pond water or other unsafe forms of hydration out of desperation. If you have a good water filter you can tap into these options, but without one you can become very sick from the bacteria and pathogens present.

Start Thinking About How You’ll Defend Yourself

Once you have food and water sustainability planned for, you need to start pondering on how you will protect yourself, your family and your home. Our site will contain numerous posts you can read about defending your home and building an arsenal of weapons to protect yourself. The sad reality is that part of surviving a SHTF scenario is defending yourself from people who are desperate and have lost their minds.

Desperate people lose any code of ethics they previously lived by, and taking drastic measures to harm you in order to improve their chances of survival are to be expected. It’s important to have both lethal and non-lethal weapons based on the threat you are facing. Certain weapons can be used for intimidation also, and many times that alone will get the job done. It’s important to keep prepping discreet, because if people know you have adequate supplies you will become a target. It’s better to not have to use any weapons you’ve accumulated to prepare.

First Aid Is An Important Skill To Develop

Another thing to take into account is that your neighborhood drug store is most certainly not going to be open during the type of calamitous times we are preparing for. Having an oversized first aid kit will be key. Do you get headaches regularly? If you don’t, chances are you will have more than one on account of all the stress and anxiety you will be faced with. Do you have a stomach condition? Do stressful times give you diarrhea? Do you rely on over the counter pain relievers for body aches and arthritis?

Then there’s the potential for sprains, injuries, wounds or deep lacerations. When things are moving fast and things are pandemonium, your likelihood of suffering an injury goes up considerably. What will you do if this happens to you or one of your loved ones? Brainstorming these scenarios and possibilities are what prepping is all about. First aid isn’t rocket science. You can easily develop this skill, and it will be a valuable one to possess if things go haywire. Being totally ignorant about first aid puts you in a precarious situation for sure.
