This product might be exclusively for your bug out bag and bugging out, but this folding shovel multi-use tool is one of the coolest compact pieces of gear I’ve seen. Weighing in at only 2.2 pounds and fitting into a 9″x6″carrying pouch, this is a very compact tool that will fit easily in any bug out bag.
You obviously wouldn’t be able to fit a traditional shovel in your bug out bag, and while carrying one might make a good weapon (I joke), it wouldn’t be very practical to bring one with you when you have to get up and go. With this innovative tool though, you can bring a shovel with you on your journey of survival, and it will almost certainly come in very handy.

Why This Folding Shovel Is A Useful Tool
This tool also contains a pick axe, which could be useful to you if the ground is really hard or rocky. Or you could dig a trench with it. Or you could use it as a makeshift weapon at a moment’s notice. I kid. I don’t find a pick axe as useful as a shovel overall, but it’s nice to have one nonetheless. The ground can get very hard when temperatures drop past a certain point, and a little help with breaking the ground come be useful.
When you get to your bug out location, there will be all kinds of needs for a shovel. For one thing, you might have buried some essential supplies to have waiting for you. Not everything you need is compact and can fit in a bug out bag. It’s really amazing how this tool collapses into a very compressed carrying case that takes up almost no space.
Other Options Besides This Cool Folding Shovel
So what do you do if you haven’t purchased this inexpensive and very cool folding shovel tool? A garden hand trowel could be an option for you. You know, those mini shovels that people use in the garden to dig up some dirt. That could get the job done as well I suppose. It won’t fit as easily in your bug out bag though, as its space requirement is considerably more than this cool folding tool.
I guess you would also have the least desirable option of digging holes with your hands too. This just isn’t practical though. What if it’s cold and the ground is hard? What if you don’t have an adequate way to clean your hands after they have been digging through the soil. You need some type of tool to penetrate the ground to dig holes. This folding shovel multi tool can get the job done for sure.
There are a number of things this tool can do for you when you are at your bug out location in nature. If it is windy, you will want to dig a hole for your fire pit, and speaking of fires, this tool will be perfect for moving and adjusting those hot embers in your campfire. This tool can also level the ground in the area in which you are going to pitch your tent. You can also dig a small trench around your tent in case of rain.
This tool can also help you with your outdoor toilet needs. It is definitely a good practice to bury your waste instead of just leaving it on the ground which will create a fly problem and also potentially make you sick, which is something you are trying to avoid at all costs. Just have a number of shallow holes dug with the loose dirt next to them and cover your waste with this tool after you’re done.
