When things are pandemonium on the streets, having a siphon pump to extract gasoline, diesel or water will be a valuable tool to rely on when things are crazy. Having that extra little bit of gas could make all the difference when you need to move from one bug out location to another. Or when you are using a non-solar generator and you are totally out of fuel.
I know what most people are probably thinking. “I could never siphon gasoline out of someone’s vehicle. That’s theft, not to mention a low class behavior.” I would agree that siphoning someone’s gasoline in normal times is definitely something that should be frowned upon. In a grid down scenario though, countless vehicles will be abandoned. Many of those vehicles will have some traces of gasoline in them, if not a considerable amount. When you consider that gas pumps won’t be in operation and that gas stations will be closed, this then becomes your only opportunity to procure much needed fuel.
There are ways you can create a makeshift siphon, but there is a clear disadvantage to this. To get some pressure and to get the fluids moving you would have to put your mouth on one end of the siphon and inhale deeply. Getting gasoline or diesel fuel in your mouth is a probable scenario there, and something you should definitely avoid at all costs. Speaking of cost, a good siphon isn’t expensive at all. A tool like this could also be used to siphon water. You might be at a creek or a river and need to refill your stackable water containers. Manually transferring the water with a bucket would be time consuming and an unnecessary form or labor. You also probably won’t have a bucket! When you’re bugging out and you need to strategically compartmentalize your bug out bag, a bucket usually doesn’t make the list of things you’ll be bringing with you. Your trusty siphon will be able to conveniently and efficiently transfer liquid from the body of water you’re tapping to your storage containers easily. It can fit in your bug out bag without taking much space at all and without adding much weight at all too.
