Stun Guns

One of my biggest fears as a prepper is that things start going haywire when I am away from home, and the way I prepare for that is with a vehicle bug out bag for my car. My work is about 11 miles from my home. Yours may be closer or farther away, but you still have to take into consideration that you might be away from home even if you aren’t at work. Being put in a position where it takes anywhere from a few hours to 2 days to walk home is a situation you should definitely be prepared for.

Stun guns are different from tasers, but they are usually thought of as one in the same. With a stun gun, you have to be up close to a potential assailant and actually touch the device to their body. With a taser you can shoot the person non-lethally from a good distance away.

This might lead you to believe that a stun gun isn’t of much value to you in your arsenal of weapons. That would be untrue. If you find yourself grappling on the floor with someone, tapping them with the stun gun ends that instantly. If you tried the same with a taser, you could definitely catch some “friendly fire” and possibly hit yourself in the process. With a stun gun you won’t have that risk. You can also keep zapping the assailant for every second you hold the stun gun to them, whereas tasers have about a 5 second cycle.

Stun guns are also considerably less expensive than tasers.  Check out how affordable they are here:

If a person is bigger and stronger than you and they are trying to coerce you by force, a stun gun will definitely neutralize the situation and give you the advantage over the bigger, stronger opponent. When we are in uncertain times and people are desperate and without morals, you need to be prepared to defend yourself and your home.

Using lethal force is something that brings consequences, and the after effect of taking someone’s life will likely haunt you for the rest of your life. Having a non-lethal weapon to subdue any potential assailant is really a must have. You should own a firearm too for when lethal force is the only option, or as a scare tactic deterrent, but hopefully you’ll never need to actually use it and you can rely on a non-lethal weapon to protect yourself.

Tasers also tend to be larger than stun guns. When you’re holding a taser people know it is a taser, if they aren’t confused and assume it is an actual firearm, which could potentially happen if it’s dark. A stun gun is smaller and more discreet, and a potential threat to you might not even know you have a weapon in your hand until you tap them with it and subdue them. The current of the stun gun goes between the two probes and causes Neuromuscular Incapacitation (NMI). The chances are very good that the person regardless of their size will fall to the ground and be very compliant after that.

The first stun gun design was proposed in 1952, but it wasn’t until the early 1970’s that the model we know today as the stun gun was established and marketed to the public as a self defense weapon.
