Treating Abrasions And Wounds

During unpredictable times, like what we will experience when the grid goes down or some other catastrophe happens, you can find yourself injured and having the ability to treat abrasions and wounds is important in your strategic plan of preparation.

An abrasion is more or less a serious cut or scrape, and oftentimes it can result in a skin flap, which can be very painful. When you or someone else suffers such an injury, having a stocked first aid kit is key. You can treat this type of injury with bandages or tourniquets, and while the healing time will vary you’ll be on the road to recovery if you have it bandaged up right.

You want to rinse the area very well with water and then allow it to dry. Then you will want to re-apply the flap and place pressure on it once it is bandaged well. If an abrasion occurs on the knee, its the same thing. Wash the area well with soap and water and bandage it well. The healing process should be relatively fast, and can be even more expedient if you use an antibiotic ointment on the wound under the bandage.

With a more serious wound, assessing the situation will be key. The most important consideration is to ensure that the wound does not become infected. This can be achieved by ensuring that it is wrapped well and not permeable to any bacteria. The wound dressing will need to be changed regularly. Once a day is a good rule of thumb.
