It’s really impressive when you consider the options we have as preppers for compact tools and gear in our survival stash. There has been considerable innovation in creating some of these items, especially when you consider how affordable most of them are. In using the concept of the Swiss army knife, all kinds of fascinating products have been created, some designed specifically for preppers and some that likely weren’t, but fit our niche and what we need just perfectly. I have to admit that collecting these items has become somewhat of an addiction for me, especially when most of them can be bought for about the price of (insert here)!
There are a lot of advantages and not much in the way of disadvantages when it comes to procuring compact tools and gear for your preps. When you employ items that are condensed and multi-use you can really add to the space you have for supplies, whether that is your bug out bag, bug out vehicle, or the storage closet in the home you’re living in. You wouldn’t think you could bring a shovel along with you, but the right collapsible multi-use tool, you can make that work no problem. I’m personally fascinated by how much gear I can fit into my bug out bag when I strategically employ products like this. I can bring things with me that I never would have anticipated before.
Space In The Bug Out Bag
The space in your bug out bag is precious real estate. Not only do you need to consider the size of the object, but the weight of it too. That’s why items like a collapsible tent and (compact towels) are so valuable to someone strategizing survival. A normal tent would not fit in a bug out bag. Forget about 48 towels! With compact items like these you can really bring a lot with you when you’re bugging out and that does make a difference. After the initial bug out, you might have to bug out again, and having everything fit orderly in your bag so you can get up and go at a moments notice is key. Be sure to check out our post on bug out locations to read about the importance of having multiple bug out locations planned just for that reason.
Bugging Out
I think there is a really good chance that we will all be able to weather the storm from home. The thought of bugging out is not pleasant to me, but it is a reality I have to accept. I have several bug out locations in my plans within 10 miles of where I live, knowing that one of them might become compromised and I’ll have to have backup plans. When you’re living in the elements and in survival mode, the more you can bring with you the better. You might really need to chop down a tree to build a fire. Bringing an axe with you isn’t a plausible reality, but you can fit a portable chainsaw in your bug out bag that will take up next to no space and only add a few ounces to the weight, if that. Carrying a conventional tent would not be convenient, but a collapsible tent can fit in your bag with ease.
Whether bugging out or hunkering down at home, I’m really into these cool tools I’ve added to my stash. I’m sure you’ll find value in many of them, and they will make a great addition to your preps. I do think that hunkering down at home is the most likely scenario, but if you have to get up and go, having some of these compact multi-use tools with you will make all the difference.
